Desiring a walkable neighborhood with diverse amenities including shopping and parks, the clients settled in the New- Urbanist Northwest Crossing development on Bend’s west side.  The design takes an urban approach to space planning with hardscape patio spaces wrapping the public fronts and a sunny private garden to the south protected by decorative fences, yardwalls, and a detached garage to the east.  The larger mass to the north addresses the long street front side while allowing deeper sun penetration into the middle of the house.  Broad overhangs to the south and tall windows help the owners control heat gain and natural ventilation to maintain an optimal comfort level year-round.  Taking a Central Oregon Contemporary spin on the neighborhood-approved Prairie Style, this house uses traditional materials of brick, wood, and stucco in a modern way.
