west hills residence
This house retained the existing foundation, retaining wall and fireplace from the original home, but has a completely new layout and contemporary character. The new home is very environmentally conscientious, with abundant natural light, SIPs panels for the walls and roofs, radiant heat, solar tube skylights, IKEA cabinetry, re-claimed wood floors, and galvalume roofing and siding. The main living space is a large open room with 16 foot wide glass doors that open onto the southern deck. The owner’s office is located off the entry court with another set of large glass doors to capture the morning sun. The northern open stairwell, southern windows and solar tube skylight helps create an unusually bright basement.
